Packaging concepts

for safe ESD protection

Securely packaged. All-round protection

Individual ESD concepts for maximum product safety

Electrostatic discharges (ESD) can cause considerable damage in electronics production – often through discharges that people are not even aware of. Custom-fit ESD packaging reliably protects sensitive components during storage, transportation and handling and is therefore an indispensable part of modern production processes.

Without suitable protective measures, the quality and reliability of electronic products can suffer. ESD packaging minimizes these risks and ensures the service life of sensitive components. ESD-PROTECT analyzes the ESD sensitivity of your components and develops an individual packaging concept that is precisely tailored to your application – compliant with IEC 61340-5-1 and DIN EN 61340.

ESD risk analysis

Recognize dangers, secure protection

A thorough risk analysis is the basis of any ESD protection strategy. It evaluates the sensitivity of the components, analyzes transport routes and interfaces as well as possible hazards due to friction, contact charge or electrostatic fields. External influences such as mechanical stress, moisture or dust are also taken into account in order to ensure a holistic safety concept.

Packaging at a glance

Protection levels for every application

Different packaging stages are used depending on the transport route and sensitivity of the components:

  • Primary packaging: Shielding bags, conductive trays, IC tubes, ESD blister packs or foams
  • Secondary packaging: dissipative or shielding cardboard boxes, ESD intermediate layers and padding
  • Tertiary packaging: earth-friendly transport boxes and moisture protection such as desiccants or moisture barrier bags for MSD components

What does the PPWR mean for ESD packaging?

New EU directive to reduce packaging waste

The PPWR (Plastic and Plastic Waste Regulation) focuses on recyclability and reusability. By 2030, all new packaging placed on the market must be recyclable or reusable.

ESD-PROTECT already offers ESD packaging that complies or already fully complies with the new PPWR (Plastic and Plastic Waste Regulation):
